Horizon Imaging was recently commissioned to photograph a stunning barn conversion nestling in the heart of the South Downs National Park. The property sits on a large plot of farmland which has been divided into gardens, paddocks, areas of wild grassland and coppiced woodland. A stroll through the woodland leads you down to the boundary fence with the Pulborough Brooks wetlands, where you are rewarded with breath-taking views across the wetlands and over to the South Downs beyond.

Horizon Imaging was recently commissioned to photograph a new housing development in the Greater London district of Coulsdon. The site, ‘Trinity Square’, comprises a collection of 1, 2 and 3 bedroom apartments and mews houses, all finished to a very high standard.

Earlier this year Horizon Imaging was commissioned to photograph the Paynes & Borthwick building development on the River Thames in Greenwich, Central London. Due to the location of the site and the aerial photography tool chosen for the shoot (our unmanned drone), a great deal of planning and paperwork was required to ensure the work could be undertaken in a safe and legal manner – it was certainly not just a case of ‘turn up and fly’!

As per our blog post from the 6th March, David Hogg has just given a talk on Drone Aerial Photography at The Photography Show at the NEC in Birmingham. The show was packed and there were drones being demonstrated and sold everywhere you looked – certainly a sign of the times! David’s talk was very well attended and the feedback was very positive – many thanks to all those who were in the audience!

Horizon Imaging was recently commissioned to photograph an affordable housing development in the London borough of Bromley from the air. The development is right in the heart of suburban London so our telescopic mast was used to capture the set of elevated photographs. A further set of ground-based architectural photographs were also taken to complete the package of marketing images for the building’s developer.

On Tuesday 24th March at 3pm, Horizon Imaging’s Director, David Hogg, will be giving a 40-minute talk entitled ‘Drone Aerial Photography: A Revolution in Elevated Imagery’ at ‘The Photography Show’ at the NEC in Birmingham, UK. He will be discussing how Drones are revolutionising the way we see our world and what regulations have to be followed in order to operate them safely and for commercial gain.

This is just a quick note to say we are in the final stages of flight testing our new ‘Octocopter’ aerial photography platform before it enters full-time service later this month. As discussed in our previous blog post, compared to our current platforms the Octocopter will fly for longer, be more resilient to windy conditions, carry a 3-axis (previously 2-axis) fully-stabilised camera gimbal and open the door to dual-crew operation where one person flies the platform and another controls the camera, allowing us to fly more complex aerial filming manoeuvres.

Horizon Imaging was recently commissioned to photograph a new housing development in Saffron Walden, Essex, called ‘The Avenue’. The housing development covers approximately 3 acres of land and includes 76 new homes, 25% of which are dedicated as affordable housing. In order to capture a variety of unique viewpoints of the development and to show how it fits in with the surrounding landscape, we used both our Drone and Mast photography platforms.

Horizon Imaging has been providing property photography packages to Estate Agents across the South East of the UK since April 2014, and our work has been highly praised by Estate Agents such as Jackson-Stops & Staff, Knight Frank, Hamptons International and Barton Wyatt

The human eye is quite remarkable in its ability to capture detail in both the very dark and very bright areas of a scene at the same time (this is known as a scene with a ‘High Dynamic Range’). However, you will probably have noticed that digital cameras aren’t nearly as good as the human eye in this respect. For example, a single photograph taken inside a house will almost always fail to capture sufficient detail in both the interior of the room and the view out of the windows. Or a brilliant sunset might look incredible to the naked eye – full of rich reds, oranges and yellows – but to a digital camera it just looks like an amorphous white blob!
