Why Portfolios Matter To the Property Industry

At Horizon Imaging we work with many businesses in the property and construction sectors. Property developers, construction companies and architects – all involved in designing and building properties of all sorts of shapes and sizes. When we speak to these companies, one thing often comes up in conversation – they’re often not very good at getting round to getting their latest projects photographed.

Now, this could be for a number of reasons. It could be that they don’t have the time, they don’t have the budget, they don’t have the resources in house to organise for someone to come and do it for them. Or sometimes they just don’t see the value in taking photos of their finished projects. After all, they’ve already got loads of new business coming in, why the unnecessary hassle and expense of getting photos taken?

Whatever the reason, these companies put hundreds if not thousands of man-hours into creating incredible buildings, but to their prospective clients who are visiting their website, it looks like they haven’t built anything new in years …

So today, here are 3 key reasons why you need up-to-date photographs of your projects in your portfolio.

Demonstrate Your Range

Often property developers and construction companies end up getting ‘pigeonholed’ into certain kinds of work, especially if you’re being recommended by word of mouth. This can leave you in a rut doing the same kind of work over and over again, which might not be profitable or enjoyable for you.

By creating a professional and diverse portfolio of your work, you have the chance to show off your complete range of skills and expertise, demonstrating the different types of projects you can work on. This can lead to attracting new clients who are looking for a company that are able to undertake a wide range of project types, and it might even make your existing customers realise that they can use you for a particular new service that you’ve just started offering, instead of having to go elsewhere!

Keeping your portfolio up to date and packed with a range of projects will make sure you keep getting regular and varied work that takes advantage of all the services you offer.

Show Off Your Work

An up-to-date portfolio of work is the perfect way to showcase what you’re capable of and the work you’ve done in the past. This will not only attract new customers to your business, but it will let them see the quality and style of your work so they can decide whether your company will be a good fit for their requirements.

A good portfolio will often contain a short overview of different projects you’ve worked on, along with images and perhaps even a video of the projects during construction and after completion. The images you use in your portfolio transmit a very visual message about the calibre of your firm – really striking images give the sense that you are justly proud of your work and have a great attention to detail . They also speak to your company’s achievements and experience, and show your potential and openness for future work – so it goes without saying that the images need to be of the highest quality possible.

Prove That You’re An Active Company

Many construction companies fall into the trap of not having any kind of social proof for their business. With construction work and property development, seeing is believing, and if you find yourself going straight from one project onto the next without getting photos taken of any of them, then you’ll end up with nothing to show for it!

This has the knock-on effect that you then don’t have a way of showcasing what you can do, or showing that you’re a busy, active company. If you were looking to commission work from a company you hadn’t used before, who would you go with – the one that last updated their website 5 years ago? Or the one that has a comprehensive portfolio showcasing all their most recent projects, right up to the last few months.

At Horizon Imaging we work closely with our clients to capture photographs and produce video tours of their latest projects, so they don’t have to worry about finding time to get it done themselves. And the longer we work with our clients, the more familiar we become with the style of imagery they require – to the point where they can just say “We have a new project finishing next week, do your usual job of making it look amazing”!

What Do Our Clients Say?

“When David first introduced himself, he demonstrated his impressive work within the sector. I commissioned him as soon as possible for a project in Banstead, and I’ve been delighted from every perspective. His approach and processes from quotation, through how he undertook his work on site, to the simple methods used to identify the preferred images, has been thoroughly professional at every stage. The quality of the final photos is astounding, and has been voiced by all who’ve seen them. I’ve already commissioned David for a project in East Sussex completing next month, and I’d not hesitate to recommend him to anyone seeking top-end professional quality imagery.”

“We recently commissioned David to photograph one of our local projects. From start to finish the process was made easy such an efficient service, the final photos were brilliant. We look forward to working with David again on future projects and have no hesitation in recommending him.”
