The brief for both films was quite similar — the films had to feature both aerial and ground-level video footage and also needed to include interviews with members of staff who work in the respective buildings. The difference is that the Bristol film was captured after project completion, whilst the Woodmansterne School film was captured twice — at the beginning and towards the end of the construction work.

The brief was to capture: external photographs of the development, showing how it nestles into the surrounding landscape; internal photographs and a Matterport Virtual Tour of one of their show flats; and a promotional film of the development.

The video required several visits to record the various activities that Charton Manor wanted to have captured for the video, including interviews with residents and footage of the grounds. The finished video is a great example of how we can provide a full suite of filming and editing services to produce a comprehensive promotional film, as the film combines drone aerial footage, inteviews, static ground footage and sliding dolly shots — all of which come together to produce an engaging introduction to Charton Manor.

Such was the case with this small kitchen extension that we photographed for Reading-based architects practice Tait Architects. The brief was to capture the extension from a variety of angles, from inside and out, both during daytime and at dusk to show off the internal and external lighting. This involved visiting the site twice on two separate days as the daytime shots had to be taken in the morning to get sun on the main rear facade of the house and extension, and the dusk shots ... obviously at dusk!

Our client, MCS Construction, was justly proud of this incredible building and wanted 'the works' when it came to professional marketing imagery to be able to use on their website — we took drone aerial photographs, ground-level photographs both internally and externally, a Matterport virtual tour and we produced a short promotional walk / fly-around video of the whole site!

From the outside the extension ... well, didn't look like an extension! — so well-executed was the design by Godalming-based MVL Architects. The extension consisted of a remodelled kitchen and open-plan dining area, and a large additional wing including a new entrance, utility rooms, washroom and study. MVL Architects asked us to fully document the extension from both outside an in which involved visiting the site twice to capture the exterior of the property in the most favourable lighting conditions — once in the morning and again in the afternoon.

The brief was to create a short film promoting the size of the site, the range of stock and also to capture the 'snake' of delivery lorries leaving the site at 7:15am sharp! We were also asked to take a set of promotional images across the site, both out in the yard and inside their warehouse and shopfront.

If you haven't seen one of these tours before, be prepared to be astounded! Matterport tours are created by scanning every space inside a property with a special 3D camera which captures not only visual imagery but also depth data. This data is then compiled into a fully-navigable 3D model of the property in question which can be rotated in 360 degrees, and allows you to jump to any point in the property at the click of a mouse.
- [2700 square metres of Royal Hampshire County Hospital roof inspected with drone in Winchester](https://www.horizonimaging.co.uk/2700-square-metres-of-royal-hampshire-county-hospital-roof-inspected-with-drone-in-winchester/): Last month we were commissioned to inspect over 2,700 square metres of roof structures at the Royal Hampshire County Hospital in Winchester. This was one of our largest aerial inspection projects to date and involved a significant amount of planning as the hospital had to remain open whilst the work was being carried out. To complicate matters further, the hospital is directly opposite Winchester Prison — a very sensitive site with an understandable concern for drones flying anywhere near their land. Thanks to our meticulous planning, the shoot was a complete success, with the entire roof structure being inspected from the air in under 3 hours. This saved our client, surveying firm AECOM considerable time and expense when compared to the only feasible alternative — cladding the entire building in scaffolding!

- [Roof of industrial unit inspected using drone and telescopic mast in Hoddesdon, Hertfordshire](https://www.horizonimaging.co.uk/roof-of-industrial-unit-inspected-using-drone-and-telescopic-mast-in-hoddesdon-hertfordshire/): We were recently commissioned to inspect the 1000 square metre roof of an industrial unit in Hoddesdon, Hertfordshire. The imagery was required to support a condition report which had been commissioned by the potential new owner of the unit, as they wanted to know the state of the building before handing over their money! Our client was structural engineering firm Bond Davidson, and we worked closely with one of their structural engineers to make sure all areas of interest were captured in the survey — these were primarily the condition of the bolts fixing the roof panels in place, the general condition of the roof panels themselves, the condition of the gutters and the condition of the roof around any protrusions through the roof's surface, eg. chimneys.

The film brought together footage from a number of different events including the 'Class of 2017 Graduation Ceremony' (for the latest group of apprentices who had successfully reached the end of the scheme) which took place at a large hotel in Greenwich, London, as well as numerous interviews with key members of staff which had been filmed at Willmott Dixon's Cobham office in Surrey in the months leading up to the Graduation Ceremony.

- [Drone inspection of the inflated roof canopies above The Malls Shopping Centre in Basingstoke, Hampshire](https://www.horizonimaging.co.uk/drone-inspection-of-the-inflated-roof-canopies-above-the-malls-shopping-centre-in-basingstoke-hampshire/): The Malls Shopping Centre in Basingstoke have been struggling for years with the inflated roof structure above their main courtyard developing mysterious holes, triggering the roof's automated deflation alarms. After some investigation they discovered the culprit(s) — the local seagulls! For some reason they continuously peck at the clear outer membrane until they've punctured it ... and then they abandon their 'creation' and start afresh elsewhere! Numerous attempts have been made to scare the birds away using automated bird deterrents, but so far none of them have proved effective. As such, a quicker and more cost-effective solution was required for locating and identifying the severity of the holes.
- [Ultra high-resolution imagery printed onto scaffolding wrap in the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office](https://www.horizonimaging.co.uk/ultra-high-resolution-imagery-printed-onto-scaffolding-wrap-in-the-uk-foreign-and-commonwealth-office/): Earlier in the year we were presented with one of our most challenging projects to date — capturing a 300 megapixel architectural photograph from 5 metres above the Grand Staircase inside the UK Foreign and Commonwealth office! Never a company to turn down such a challenge, we eagerly accepted the project. The ceiling above one side of the Grand Staircase was in need of renovation and the only way to achieve this was to completely scaffold the area from floor to ceiling. However, as the Grand Staircase is one of the most beautiful and photographed areas of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) — and one that is often used as a backdrop for photographs of official visits — the FCO understandably wanted to keep the unsightly scaffolding hidden as much as possible.

These have ranged from two finely crafted estate agents in north London and Hertfordshire, a stunning modern office re-design for an investment firm in Central London, and the redevelopment of a multi-floor office block in a listed building in the heart of Nottingham town centre.

- [Short film produced documenting beautiful hand-built wooden bureau](https://www.horizonimaging.co.uk/short-film-produced-documenting-beautiful-hand-built-wooden-bureau/): A long-term family friend recently asked if we could create a short film about something very dear to his heart — a wooden bureau that took him many years of hard work during his spare time to design and build as a gift for his daughter. As he now lives very far from his daughter, he rarely gets the chance to enjoy the fruits of his handiwork and so this video would serve as a permanent reminder of the bureau which he can take with him everywhere. Even if one has no background in carpentry, it's hard not to be bowled-over by the beauty of this piece of furniture. The attention to detail is impeccable, the fit and finish is extraordinary, and the amount of thought that went into its design and execution is plain to see.

The video was to include aerial footage of their site to show off its beautiful green setting in the Hampshire countryside, as well ground-level footage taken in and around their care home.

The common thread linking all of these sites? The use of our fully-portable 50-foot telescopic mast to take elevated photographs of all the premises to help illustrate their scale and location.

The task was to take some photographs of the top of a suspended canopy roof to ascertain whether there were suitable fixing points available for ... yes you guessed it, Christmas decorations!

Now, 2 years later, we revisited the same garden to document how it had matured and developed over the intervening years, and to produce a brand new set of advertising material which could be used on the landscape architect's website. As well as taking a set of aerial and ground-level photographs of the garden, as we did last time, this time we were also commissioned to produce a short aerial and ground-level film to show off the grandeur and beauty of this very unique landscaping project.
- [Promotional film produced for stunning new rural property development in Puttenham, Surrey](https://www.horizonimaging.co.uk/promotional-film-produced-for-stunning-new-rural-property-development-in-puttenham-surrey/): A few weeks ago we were contacted by high-end estate agent Savills based in Guildford, asking if we could produce a short aerial video to help show off the location of a brand new property development that they were selling. The site in question is situated in the beautiful, stereotypically-English village of Puttenham in Surrey which lies in the 'Surrey Hills' — an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). As well as producing the video, we also took some aerial photographs which they could use in their printed marketing literature and on their website.
- [Promotional video produced for Willmott Dixon’s flagship University of Kent ‘Sibson’ Building](https://www.horizonimaging.co.uk/promotional-video-produced-for-willmott-dixon-s-flagship-university-of-kent-sibson-building/): Earlier in the year we were commissioned by national construction firm Willmott Dixon to take a set of aerial photographs and produce an aerial and ground-based promotional video of one of their latest flagship projects — the 'Sibson' building at the University of Kent. The extraordinary W-shaped building is likely to be entered in for a number of awards, as the project has met / exceeded a number of stringent requirements in terms of energy efficiency and sensitivity to the surrounding environment, and Willmott Dixon were keen to have some striking imagery to represent the project.
- [Short talk on Drones given at Penningtons Manches Property Professionals Lunch](https://www.horizonimaging.co.uk/short-talk-on-drones-given-at-penningtons-manches-property-professionals-lunch/): Last week we had the opportunity of giving a short talk on drones to a gathered audience of over 100 property professionals at the Penningtons Manches Property Professionals Lunch at the West Surrey Golf Club near Godalming, Surrey. The talk was intended to provide a general introduction to the applications of drone technology and some of the regulations which govern their use in the UK. The talk was followed by a brief demonstration of the drone flying outside, culminating in taking an aerial group photograph of all the attendees!

The work involved capturing a mixture of ground-level and aerial imagery of a number of sites where Bailey's products have been used. So far we're only able to show photos from two of these projects, but we will be sharing more once permission has been granted.

The videos would act as supporting evidence for the nominated teams / individuals in the categories of Apprenticeships, Sustainability and Young Achievers — after all, it's a lot more convincing to listen to someone else describe how amazing you are than to say so yourself!
- [Aerial progress photos capture extensive soil remediation project in Tipner, Portsmouth, Hampshire](https://www.horizonimaging.co.uk/aerial-progress-photos-capture-extensive-soil-remediation-project-in-tipner-portsmouth-hampshire/): Since December 2016 we have been documenting the progress at a soil remediation site in Tipner, Portsmouth, Hampshire for national remediation experts SoilFix. During each visit we have been capturing plan-view progress photographs of the enormous 6-hectare site, which we have had to split up into 3 separate sections — even when using our widest-angle lens and flying at our maximum permissible altitude of 400ft the site doesn't fit in a single image!

Justifiably proud of the beautiful design and execution of this new building, Corniche were keen to show it off to its best using professional ground-level and elevated photographs. The church hall was built directly next to the existing 19th Century St John the Evangelist Church, and it was key that the design and appearance of the new hall matched the church as closely as possible.

- [Telescopic mast helps London structural engineering firm assess risk of sagging facade brickwork](https://www.horizonimaging.co.uk/telescopic-mast-helps-london-structural-engineering-firm-assess-risk-of-sagging-facade-brickwork/): A few weeks ago we were commissioned to take some inspection photographs of a building in Cricklewood, London, where a roof-level facade of bricks appeared to be sagging under its own weight, as well as bowing inwards towards the rest of the building. The building's owners, understandably concerned, called in a structural engineering firm to investigate. The roof itself was inaccessible without using a cherry picker or scaffolding, so the only option for performing a visual inspection of the facade was either to use a drone or a telescopic mast. As this building was on the corner of a very busy road junction, using the drone was not an option — so it was our mast to the rescue!

The photographs had to capture the glitz and glammer of the venue (which had been especially decorated for the event), the guests enjoying both themselves and Bombay Sapphire's special cocktails which were flowing freely for the duration of the event (!), as well as the general ambience of the event — helping to convey what it's like to attend one of their functions.

The existing roof had become too expensive to maintain, so a brand new roof would be installed in its place – but only once the existing roof had been covered by a scaffolding exoskeleton that would allow the building work to proceed regardless of the weather conditions.

The latest two sites to be filmed were Bohunt School in Worthing, West Sussex and Warfield School in Warfield, Berkshire. The brief for both of the videos was the same – produce a 2-3 minute promotional video comprising both aerial and ground-based footage, that would give someone who hasn't visited the site before an idea of the scale and complexity of the work that had been undertaken.

As our mast is fully portable and sits in its own 4-legged tripod, the answer was "of course we can"!
- [Drone imagery combined with CGI buildings to show how a proposed Lidl store will look in Hersham, Surrey](https://www.horizonimaging.co.uk/drone-imagery-combined-with-cgi-buildings-to-show-how-a-proposed-lidl-store-will-look-in-hersham-surrey/): Earlier in August we were commissioned by Columbian-based 3D visualisation company MONOMO to take some drone aerial photographs of a business park in Hersham, Surrey which is due to be turned into a Lidl supermarket. Once the images were taken, MONOMO would then super-impose a computer-generated 3D model of the new supermarket onto the aerial photographs to give the public an idea of what the final site would look like. As Hersham is such a built-up area, the most difficult part of this shoot was finding suitable locations to fly the drone, as there are many regulations that govern the use of drones in built-up areas.
- [Roof of 4-storey block of flats inspected for damage in Sunbury-on-Thames, Surrey in under an hour](https://www.horizonimaging.co.uk/roof-of-4-storey-block-of-flats-inspected-for-damage-in-sunbury-on-thames-surrey-in-under-an-hour/): Last month we were commissioned to perform a preventative-maintenance roof inspection of a block of flats in Sunbury-on-Thames, Surrey. Although the client had initially asked us to use our drone for the inspection, they were unaware of the restrictions that govern where drones can and cannot be used. As this flat was in a busy neighbourhood with roads, cars and other blocks of flats on all sides, we suggested using our fully-portable 50-foot telescopic mast instead.
