Sometimes it's the smallest projects which require the most care and attention when photographing them for your portfolio. Such was the case with this small kitchen extension that we photographed for Reading-based architects practice Tait Architects.

The brief was to capture the extension from a variety of angles, from inside and out, both during daytime and at dusk to show off the internal and external lighting. This involved visiting the site twice on two separate days as the daytime shots had to be taken in the morning to get sun on the main rear facade of the house and extension, and the dusk shots ... obviously at dusk!

To take the interior photographs we worked with the homeowner to tidy the kitchen and arrange some vases of flowers to add a little extra sparkle to the photographs. When taking interior property photographs, it's essential to reduce the clutter on work surfaces as much as possible. However, there's a fine line between having nothing on the work surfaces (which then makes it look like no-one lives in the house!) and having too much personal stuff lying around which then draws the viewers' attention away from looking at the room itself.

Whilst we were on the site we took the opportunity to create another Matterport virtual tour — a tiny one at that, but one that shows off the enormous potential of capturing 3D walk-around marketing imagery as well traditional photographs.

To explore the 3D Virtual Tour below, follow these simple instructions:

Click the Play button below to load the tour
Rotate the 3D model by clicking and dragging using the left mouse button
Click and drag using the right mouse button to shift the model horizontally and vertically
Zoom in and out of the model using your mouse's scrollwheel
Click once in any part of the model to jump into that room to jump down to the ground-level walk-around tour
Click and drag using the left mouse button to look around and left-click anywhere in your field of view to move in that direction (the forward / back / left / right arrow keys can also be used)
Our client, Tait Architects, were delighted with the services we provided and kindly sent us the following testimonial:
"Working with David was a pleasure at each and every stage. He took and understood the brief, prepared a clear quotation describing exactly his service. He liaised with our client to arrange the photo shoot. His demeanour and professionalism portrayed the same values and attention to detail that echoed our own. The images were turned around efficiently and conveyed through an excellent web based selection tool. Once reviewed the preferred images were professionally modified to produce the most refined product. These were then made available via the web portal for high resolution download. An excellent, swift easy to use service from start to finish. We will definitely be using Horizon Imaging again."
